Anaesthesia for Cardiac Surgery (12 months)
The Cardiac SIA is typically a 12-month training block. Cardiac Anaesthesia & post-operative cardiac ICU will form the bulk of the clinical exposure. This is a fully clinical post intended to provide training to approach a level appropriate for Consultant appointment depending upon prior experience.
Trainees will gain experience of independent Anaesthetic care for patients across the whole spectrum of Cardiac Surgery provided in our unit, including coronary and valvular surgery, surgery for elective and emergency procedures on the intra-thoracic aorta, as well as cardiac surgery for ongoing care of patients with congenital heart disease. We also provide anaesthetic support for cardiological interventions for electrophysiological and structural procedures including TAVI and TEER, for which we are one of the largest centres in the UK. SIA trainees will also be trained in Transoesophageal Echocardiography to EACVI accreditation standards.
