Obstetric SIA
GWH is a busy district general hospital with around 3,700 deliveries per year and a 50% caesarean section rate.
We have daily elective section lists with a separate emergency team covering delivery suite. The anaesthetic team are part of the MDT ward round twice a day, and during your SIA you should develop the expertise to run the labour ward.
High risk clinics for antenatal and postnatal follow ups run bi weekly, and all elective section patients are seen in a weekly pre-operative clinic. High risk patients are triaged on a daily basis. You would be encouraged and supported to organise a micro fellowship at a tertiary centre for further experience if required.

Teaching and QI
There is opportunity to supervise and support novice obstetric anaesthetists gaining their IACOA. In addition, regular involvement in PROMPT, maternal medicine simulation and departmental teaching would be expected. Midwifery teaching, particularly to support critical care competencies would be encouraged.
Multiple opportunities for QI project, involvement in organising and running COMMA meetings, involvement with midwifery research teams.
There are monthly maternity governance meetings, and weekly incident review meetings, both held on Teams. Annual half day obs/anaesthetics clinical governance, which you could help organise as part of your SIA.
