SIA Major General Surgery
NBT specialties include upper and lower GI, urology and gynae:
- Upper GI includes a busy bariatric surgery service
- Lower GI increasingly involves use of the Da Vinci robot, and our surgeons often collaborate with other specialties e.g. pelvic exenteration (urology) and sarcoma resections
- Urology is a rich seam, with a pelvic cancer service (robotic prostatectomy, cystectomy), upper tract cancers including phaeochromocytoma resection and caval tumour cases, plus a busy functional urology service including sacral nerve modulation treatment
- Gynae at NBT is all benign work. We are increasingly using the Da Vinci robot to treat endometriosis patients
Each of these specialty areas will be able to offer additional project activity, for example in enhanced recovery pathways, pre-operative optimisation and “pre-hab”, productivity.
